The Universe on Our Side: A Magical Musical Evening in London

A Lucky Break: Candlelit Concert First Up

Sometimes, the best nights are the ones you never plan, and our evening in London was a perfect example. Originally, we had booked a quiet dinner at Sarastro, skipping a candlelit concert in Rochester we thought about attending. But as we strolled past St. Paul’s Church in Covent Garden, the sweet strains of an orchestra drew us closer. Turns out, a candlelit concert was happening right there, showcasing all the popular musical numbers from major theatrical productions—exactly the kind of thing we’d have regretted missing.

Just as we were debating whether to try for last-minute tickets, I recognized a familiar face from Phantom Peak—a colleague who, in a stroke of unbelievable luck, had extra tickets. Moments later, we were seated inside, soaking up renditions of the most beloved songs from the West End. The music swelled in the candlelit ambience, making it a surreal start to our evening.

Sarastro Steals the Show

Riding high from the concert, we made our way to Sarastro, ready for what we knew would be an exceptional dining experience. This place is something else—a feast for the senses with its lavish decor, lively atmosphere and some erotic paintings adorning the bathroom walls. We were seated right next to a spirited salsa band, their rhythms pulsating through the air, infusing our meal with an infectious beat.

Our dinner was a parade of meticulously prepared dishes: scallops seared to perfection, shrimp grilled just right, and lamb chops so tender they nearly fell off the bone. And the baklava? A sweet masterpiece. Sure, the service took its time, but we were too caught up in the surroundings—a kaleidoscope of quirky antiques and plush fabrics—to mind the wait. Every glance around the room offered a new visual treat, adding layers to our dining story.

Wrapping Up with a Sing-Along

The night could have ended there, but Covent Garden had one more surprise in store for us. As we ambled through the bustling streets, the opening notes of "Bohemian Rhapsody" echoed around the piazza. A busker had gathered a crowd of what seemed like hundreds, all joining in for a spontaneous sing-along. Kelly and I couldn't resist; we jumped right in, our voices merging with the crowd's in a powerful rendition that seemed to lift everyone’s spirits. It was an unplanned chorus, yet everything felt perfectly in tune.

What Makes a Night Worth It

Reflecting on the evening, it’s clear that sometimes, letting the universe guide you can lead to the most memorable experiences. From a serendipitous concert to a dynamic meal and a communal musical moment under the stars, the night was a series of unexpected delights. This is the essence of what we call "Worth It Moments"—embracing the unexpected and finding joy in the spontaneity of life.

Here’s to more evenings like this, filled with the magic of music, the warmth of good food, and the joy of shared experiences. Let’s keep finding those moments that make us say, "Yes, this is exactly where I’m supposed to be."
