Finding Our Little Slice of Magic

Kelly and I are always looking for something a bit different for our special moments, so when it came time to pick a spot for possibly the biggest question I'd ever ask, Heath Hollow Hideaway hit all the right notes. Tucked away in Essex we booked two magical nights, this place promised a quiet, magical vibe away from the hustle and bustle—and oh, did it deliver.

First Steps into Our Fairy Tale

Walking into the cabin felt like stepping inside a living storybook. They had this whimsical music playing softly in the background that set the tone right away. It was just us, the music, and a cabin that felt like it was made just for this moment. The place was decked out with fairy lights, a cosy fireplace, and a huge, comfy bed that was just screaming for a good night’s sleep.

The Heart of the Hideaway

The cabin was much bigger than I anticipated and every corner was perfectly planned. There was this awesome copper bathtub right next to a window looking out over the woods—ideal for a soak if we hadn’t been too excited to sit still. Each and every ornament and detail was placed with care and it made the cabin feel truly enchanted, complete with floating candles you can switch on and off with a wand.

Popping the Question

As the sun started to set, the whole room took on this golden glow, and that’s when I asked Kelly to marry me. It couldn’t have been more perfect. I laid out a trail of sunflowers leading to a forever sunflower (there is a theme) with the ring I had been holding onto for months, waiting for the perfect moment, not forgetting to set up the camera beforehand to capture the moment. She said yes (thank goodness!), and we had this incredible feeling of being in our little world, completely private and intimate.

Dinner and Celebrations

We celebrated with dinner at The Talbooth. A Michelin-star restaurant located on the River Stour, just outside Colchester. We started our meal with Pan Seared Orkney Scallops and a Mosaic of Salmon Gravadlax and Dill. The main event was Roast Fillet of British Beef with Smoked Cheddar Croquette and Thyme Roasted Breast of Norfolk Chicken. Then for dessert Pistachio Mille-Feuille and White Chocolate Bavarois and Marinated Strawberries. It was honestly one of the best meals we've had and that's saying something. Top 10 for sure and the backdrop was perfect and sophisticated.

Just Us and the Stars

After dinner, we just chilled out under the stars around the fire pit, and talked about our future. It was quiet, just us, exactly how we wanted it. No big party, no interruptions—just one perfect, unforgettable night.

Our stay at Heath Hollow Hideaway was everything we could have hoped for and more. It was the perfect blend of simplicity, privacy, and enchantment—exactly what we needed for such a personal occasion. This hideaway not only provided a beautiful backdrop for our proposal but also proved to be a sanctuary where we could celebrate our love just the way we wanted.
